        <title>Clinical Assistant Professor   Resource Acquisition   Management Librarian   Head of Department </title>
        <description>University of Illinois at Chicago - The University of Illinois at Chicago, a Carnegie RU VH institution located near the Chicago Loop, with a student enrollment of 27,000 and offering doctoral degrees in 60 areas and master s degrees in nearly 80, seeks a talented and innovative librarian to head its Resource Acquisition   Management Department  RAM .     p   RAM was formed in 2010 by merging the Acquisitions and Catalog Departments and integrating electronic resources management.  It is a continuously evolving technical services operation that meets the changing needs of an ARL library.  It handles ordering, receiving, and payment for more than  8.5 million in electronic and print materials.  Electronic resources management handles license negotiation and access to the library s electronic collections.  Cataloging is done both in house and through vendor services.  The UIC Library contributes to the NACO program of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging.  Work is performed within the framework of a 76 library Voyager state system called I Share.   p   RAM is located in the University s Richard J. Daley Library but serves all sites of the University Library system  including Libraries of the Health Sciences in four cities .  The department currently consists of 4.8 FTE professionals and 16 support staff organized to perform Acquisitions   Rapid Cataloging, Resource Description   Access, and Electronic Resources functions.   p   The Resource Acquisition   Management Librarian reports to the Associate University Librarian and is responsible for     managing and leading the department and its personnel    planning and implementing new initiatives that will improve service and efficiency    coordinating multi unit projects    directly overseeing the Resource Description   Access unit, which performs original cataloging and database management and offers metadata services    proposing and implementing organizational and staffing changes to improve the department s effectiveness    leading the development and implementation of new standards and systems in cataloging, acquisitions, and electronic resources    encouraging staff development within RAM, and among staff whose assignments in Special Collections and the Library of the Health Sciences include technical services operations    working effectively with vendors of products and services and with partners in consortia    contributing to management of the Library.   p   Salary Rank Contract  Salaries are competitive and based on education and experience  entry level faculty appointments begin at  55,000  faculty status  twelve month appointment  24 days vacation  12 days annual sick leave with additional disability benefits  11 paid holidays  medical insurance  contribution based on annual salary  coverage for dependents may be purchased   two dental plans available  life insurance paid for by the State  participation in one of the retirement options of the Illinois State Universities Retirement System compulsory  8  of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal   no Social Security coverage but Medicare payment required  physical examination at University Health Service is required upon appointment.   p   For fullest consideration apply by December 15, 2011.
