Resource Sharing Service Changes

MLS has announced a service change to the Resource Sharing Service. As of April 15th, MLS Resource Sharing will no longer facilitate Interlibrary loan borrowing and lending requests for the suburban members of MLS. Nor will the Resource Sharing office secure photocopies of journal articles for the membership after May 15th.

MLS Resource Sharing will continue to provide continuing education and consulting on Resource Sharing topics. In addition, Resource Sharing will provide verification support for items not readily identifiable on OCLC FirstSearch. Upon request, we will facilitate International Interlibrary Loan and Photocopy on a cost recovery basis. MLS Resource Sharing will continue to support both Reciprocal Borrowing and the Union List of Serials projects. Along with providing the suburban members with bookbands and the “Your Public Library” brochures.

An FAQ addressing a few anticipated questions and concerns has been prepared. Please contact Kate Boyle (630-734-5160) if you should have any questions and concerns.

About Resource Sharing

The MLS Resource Sharing Service provides support to the MLS membership in the areas of Interlibrary Loan and Reciprocal Borrowing. In these two areas we provide consulting services (both at the member library and on the phone), continuing education events, and facilitation through our various print and online resources, including the MLS Union List of Serials. In our role as a facilitator of Interlibrary Loan, we specialize in verifying and locating materials and journal articles not readily identifiable to our MLS members. In the area of Reciprocal Borrowing, we coordinate reimbursement between libraries for materials lost by reciprocal borrowers and upon request perform the transmittal of delinquent patrons to collection agencies.

Resource Sharing Mailing List

MLS Resource Sharing has created a mail list to facilitate communication and discussion of ILL and Reciprocal Borrowing concerns within MLS. To subscribe, send an email to MLS-ILL-request@mls.lib.il.us with "subscribe" in the subject line of your message. Once you have subscribed, feel free to initiate and contribute to any Resource Sharing discussions.
