MLS supports Networking Groups by offering the ability to use mailing lists for online member discussion and networking opportunities. Please contact webmaster@mls.lib.il.us for additional information about starting a networking group. 

Subscribing to Mailing Lists

From the Networking Groups page, select a group and click on that group’s mailing list.  This will take you to subscription information for that mailing list. You can also contact the Member contact or MLS staff member contact for additional information. Not all groups have mailing lists, but may use their own form of communication.

Posting To Mailing Lists

• To post to a list, send an email message to: [List Name]@mls.lib.il.us
• Most lists allow attachments, but please refrain from sending large files, i.e., 1MB (1024KB) or higher.

Mailing List Information

• MLS Communication Lists (mlsCE and swamcom) are MLS Staff only lists.  MLS uses selected lists to communicate system information exclusively to its membership. These lists are based on “generic” email addresses only, which are system-generated using 3-character agency codes. Members cannot subscribe to these lists with their individual email address. MLS staff will subscribe each library’s “generic” email address for them.
• A member group that uses a mailing list may limit posting to that mailing list to groups members. Please check the membership requirements for a group or contact the member contact or MLS staff member contact.

Troubleshooting Posting to MLS Lists

Messages posted to a mailing list may not appear immediately for the following reasons:

• The list name was incorrect in your email.
• The Barracuda spam filter has trapped the message.
• MLS list moderators have not yet released the message.

If your message to a mailing list has not appeared by the end of regular business hours on the day you sent the message, contact the MLS staff contact for that group.  Keep in mind that messages sent after 4:00 p.m. may not be released until the following business day.
