Register for Innovate, Create, and Succeed: Thinking Big, Thinking Forward before end of the day October 1, 2009 and be entered into a raffle to win an Amazon Kindle, furnished by Prenax Basch. This one day conference geared towards Special Librarians, takes place on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the MLS Burr Ridge office. Anne Caputo, SLA President Elect will speak along with others on topics ranging from facilitating and incorporating creativity into your work, creative marketing, and use of tools and resources. Registration is open for the MLS Annual School Librarians’ Holiday Program, Friday, December 4, 2009, 1:30 – 4:30, MLS Burr Ridge. The event will create a “Snowball Effect” by bringing together School and Youth Service Public library staff to meet, share ideas, and collaborate towards potential partnerships. Attendees will engage in a dialogue around forming and maintaining relationships within their own public/school library districts, and hear from a panel of elementary, high school, and public librarians with established successful partnerships. Refreshments and networking with vendors will also take place. Space is limited thus libraries are asked to limit to one staff member. Library System Standards Committee Update

MLS Board Highlights
Highlights from the MLS Board Meeting held on September 21, 2009 include:

Accepted the MLS Audit for FY09
- Approved the Revised FY10 Budget
- Supported the Revised MLS Plan of Service
- Accepted the application for full membership from Chicago Center for Green Technology
- Accepted the service proposal from Innovative Interfaces for a personal service rep for MLS

Library Card Sign-up Month

Grants & Awards
Baker & Taylor Entertainment Audio Music/Video Product Award Presented by the Public Library Association and Baker & Taylor this award is to promote the development of a circulating audio music/video collection in public libraries. Candidates must submit an application, describing the proposal, explaining how this project fits the purpose of this grant and how the $2,500 worth of audio music or video products (ordered through Baker & Taylor) will benefit the project. Library Law: Revisions to the Illinois FOIA and Open Meetings
On August 17, 2009, Governor Patrick Quinn signed Senate Bill 189 which has now become Public Act 096-0542 and which will become effective on January 1, 2010. The Act revises the Illinois Freedom of Information and Open Meetings Acts (5 ILCS 140/1, et al. and 5 ILCS 120/1, et al., respectively). These revisions impact all units of local government in Illinois, including both Library Districts and Public Libraries.

MLS Service: Presenting the New ILLINET Resource Sharing Policy Directory
The new ILLINET Resource Sharing Policy Directory is pleased to join the statewide CE Calendar and ELI library data as part of L2. The directory is now online and waiting for libraries to enter their data. The Resource Sharing Directory includes Interlibrary Loan, Photocopy, and Reciprocal Borrowing policies. As an added feature, in order to assist libraries in meeting the ILLINET ILL Code, libraries will have the capability to upload their written ILL Borrowing and ILL Lending policies to the directory.
