Meet MLS Staff: Diane Collettiby Christina Stoll, MLSDiane Colletti came on board as the newest Metropolitan Library System (MLS) Library Services Consultant on Monday January 28, 2008. Diane joins MLS with over 20 years experience in libraries of all types, in both rural and urban settings. Her past experiences have included being a Cataloger, High School Librarian, and Academic Librarian. She was also a Youth Services Librarian in Westchester IL, where she over saw afterschool activities with middle school students, serving as the library’s Homework Helper. In addition she worked with the local middle schools on various activities, including the Chicago History project. As a former Library Consultant for the Alliance Library System (ALS), Diane brings a lot of member service experience with her. At ALS, Diane worked with several member groups, including their reference round table in the Bloomington area, and public library directors groups. She planned the system’s Summer Reading Kick-Off event, which was a one day forum for public library members to come hear from presenters and entertainers, in order to sign them up for their summer reading events. Diane loved to go on library member site visits, as well as coordinating special trips such as taking groups of members to Springfieldfor a "backstage tour" of the Abraham Lincoln Museum and Library, Advocacy Day, or a trip to Chicago for the ALA National Conference. Mostly recently, Diane worked for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Library of Health Sciences. She served as the library’s liaison to the College of Medical, and implemented the first year medical school student’s orientation to the library. Networking; connecting people and information are professional passions of Diane’s, which match up ideally to her work as a library consultant. She also loves to plan and coordinate programs and events. While Diane will work with all member types, her primary areas of focus will be with the Academic Libraries, Reference, and Youth Services. She has enjoyed all of her past library experiences and the knowledge they have given her, and looks forward to using her experiences to aid MLS libraries with their questions and needs. Please feel free to send Diane a warm greeting or questions by emailing her at collettid@mls.lib.il.us or calling at (630) 734-5110. A Few Fun Facts You May Not Know About Diane Colletti
